About This Game
Game Introduction
Fortress Chess is a creative variation of traditional chess designed for players who enjoy strategic challenges. In this version, each piece except the queen has a unique special ability that changes how players approach the board. Pawns can move one or two spaces each turn, rooks can build walls on adjacent squares for defense, knights can capture pieces without moving into their squares, bishops can become invisible, and kings can stun adjacent pieces. These powers create dynamic gameplay where every move matters. The game follows standard chess rules for check, checkmate, and stalemate, so it feels familiar yet fresh. Created for fun, it welcomes feedback from players. The interface uses clear icons and fonts for a smooth experience.
How to Play
To play Fortress Chess, players click on a piece to select it, then click a valid square to move or activate its special power. Holding a designated key temporarily reveals cloaked bishops. Each power triggers automatically when moving to an appropriate square. For example, moving a rook to an empty adjacent square builds a wall, while moving a knight to capture removes the target piece without the knight moving there. Players can experiment with strategies like using walls to block attacks or stunning enemy pieces to create advantageous positions. The game ends with checkmate or stalemate as usual.
